Huiping Xu, M.D. Medical Residency Candidate After graduation from medical school, I was a teaching and research assistant in the department of anatomy and took part in research of Alzheimer and Parkinson diseases. In 1999, I obtained my master degree in neurobiology in the most prestigious institute in china. My research project was related with development and regeneration of central nervous system. I gained the interest and knowledge of neuron growth under different survival environment. In 2000, I was studying as a visiting scholar in goteborg university in Sweden. The research I was engaged in is the cellular mechanisms of memory by the method of electrophysiology. My research in UCSF was related with central and peripheral pain. All the above research are in the field of neuroscience, so that I have a special feeling I will be related with neurology because I have been in this field for a long time. My passion for knowledge and education has made me realize that I would like to be a unique blend of both healthcare provider and educator. Neurology holds a common approach to patient making them complementary and synergistic. I know that a career in Neurology will require that I summon all of my resources, but I have the commitment and stamina to do it all. It will provide me with the best opportunity to become a productive member of society while making use of my intellectual talents in a career that I expect to be constantly challenging and fulfilling.
